Text and Texture,
Jest and Gesture

A portrait of artist Monique Régimbald‐Zeiber, 2022 winner of the Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts.

Synopsis:
This video portrait explores the radical and resonant work of Monique Régimbald-Zeiber—an artist whose feminist practice challenges the boundaries of painting and thought. Through a rich interplay of image and text, Régimbald-Zeiber confronts the erasures of history, language, and dominant power structures, giving voice to the "invisibilized." A vital figure in contemporary visual culture, her work is both an act of resistance and a deeply intellectual pursuit. This portrait invites viewers into her ongoing quest to redefine the meaning of art in society—where painting becomes a space for active thinking, inclusion, and reinvention.
